Ria Puri is a Philosophy, Politics, and Law Minor, ECAS '23. She started this project as a prelude to the 2020 election. Since the inception of social media, our country has waded into a swamp of non-truths and intransigent bias that has led us stratified and contentious. As philosophers lament this situation, there is a claim that social media has robbed Americans of their ability to formulate rational arguments based on factual information. Social Media became a weaponized tool to inject discourse with questionable suppositions and fallacious claims to manipulate Americans into believing an alternate reality. My hope through writing this piece was to illuminate the potential of social media while also expressing its downfall through corporate actors. This exchange reveals the downfall of Twitter as a reformatory tool.
