Updates on Issue 3

Dear Readers and Authors,

We would like to begin by expressing our deepest gratitude for your continued support and interest in the Emory Journal of Society, Politics, and Ethics. As we strive to maintain the highest standards for our journal, we must address the recent delay in the submission process of our third issue, focusing on Oppression and Resistance.

On April 25, 2024, Emory students and faculty came together to express their frustration with the ongoing genocide in Gaza as well as Emory’s support of Cop City in Atlanta, holding a peaceful protest on the Quadrangle. In response, Emory University deployed the Atlanta Police and Georgia State Patrol, who brutalized our fellow students, faculty, alumni, and community members, arresting 28 people. Their trials are still pending.

Given these events, we felt it inappropriate to release our issue on Oppression and Resistance at a time when our own community was being oppressed for their acts of resistance. This issue’s theme deeply resonates with the experiences of BIPOC individuals who have faced brutalization and suffering at the hands of institutions and governments.

We apologize for the delay in releasing a statement supporting the resistance, as well as for postponing the publication of submissions to which our authors have dedicated so much time and effort. Our journal remains committed to serving as a platform for thought-provoking and impactful work, especially in times when the themes we explore are so urgently reflected in our lived reality.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to release the third issue on Oppression and Resistance. Soon you will get specific instructions on what you can do to make this issue a reality by the end of this semester!

Sincerely,
Hidaya Mansour
